Michael's story

On October 3, 2011, our very first grandchild, Michael, was born. He came into this world with many physical and mental handicaps, but his life was truly a miracle because he wasn't supposed to live past birth.

Riley Children's Hospital was instrumental in caring for Michael every step of the way. They provided a tremendous amount of support, love, and compassion, not only toward Michael, but our family as well.

On March 20, 2020, our beloved Michael moved on from this life to one where he is completely whole. His 8 years here would not have been possible without the dedicated individuals at Riley Children's Hospital.

What started as a way to give back to Riley has grown into something bigger. Today we run multiple campaigns each year for causes close to our hearts, including suicide awareness.

“We are thrilled to be able to give back and to help support the missions of the causes we believe in.”

When is the 2026 Riley Children's Hospital fundraiser?

Our 5th annual fundraiser for Riley Children's Hospital wraps up Friday, October 30, 2026. Our goal this year is $500,000. Raffle tickets are sold through GalaBid. We will post the link here and on Instagram when sales open.

How does the bottle raffle work?

Distilleries, clubs, and collectors from across the country donate bottles. You buy raffle tickets for a chance to win them, and winners are drawn live on fundraiser night. Proceeds go to Riley Children's Foundation.

Is my donation tax-deductible?

Yes. SLB Cares is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, EIN 39-4345922. Donations are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law.

Where does the money go?

Riley fundraiser proceeds go directly to Riley Children's Foundation to support Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis, which has received $1,002,449 from our community since 2022. Proceeds from our golf outing support suicide prevention and mental health awareness.

Can I donate a bottle or become a sponsor?

Yes. Email us at kurt@slbdrinks.com or send us a message on Facebook or Instagram (@slbdrinks).

Why did SLB Cares start?

Our first grandchild, Michael, was cared for by Riley Children's Hospital for all eight years of his life. After he passed in 2020, we started SLB Cares to give back. What began as an $18,000 raffle in 2022 has grown into over a million dollars raised by the whiskey community.

The raffle ends Friday, October 30, 2026.
